ULTRASOUND

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCEDURE

Ultrasound is a diagnostic method used to evaluate pretty much every system and organ in the human body. It is the most popular, simple and informative method of research and diagnosis, as well as assessment of the treatment dynamics.

HOW THE PROCEDURE IS PERFORMED?

Ultrasound diagnostics has been known for a long time and is successfully used in various fields of medicine – gastroenterology, hepatology, gynecology, obstetrics, cardiology, urology, the study of veins and arteries, thyroid and mammary glands.

Its work is based on echolocation: the sensor placed on the patient's skin is both an emitter and an ultrasound receiver. Ultrasound, coming out of the sensor, penetrates skin and is reflected to some extent from dense organs, such as, for example, the liver or kidneys. The reflected sound is recorded by the same sensor and converted into an image by the ultrasound device. Therein lies the reason of the ultrasound safety, as only sound is emitted, although not audible to the human ear due to the very high frequency of vibrations. The method is absolutely safe even during pregnancy and for babies. The study takes a short time and the result is known immediately. The only downside lies in the fact that not all organs can be examined using ultrasound, but only dense ones (for example, the liver, spleen, kidneys or pancreas), since sound is not reflected by air-containing organs (such as the lungs).

ADVANTAGES OF THE ULTRASOUND DIAGNOSTICS

  • No radiation, safe even for pregnant women and children
  • Possibility of multiple repeated application
  • Pain-free procedure
  • Efficiency of the diagnostic procedure
  • Quick result generation
  • High informational content
  • Diagnosability of early-stage illness
