IODINE-BROMINE BATH



DESCRIPTION OF THE PROCEDURE

Iodine-bromine baths are widely used in spa treatment. They are widely used in the treatment of various gynecological diseases, musculoskeletal system, joint diseases, as well as various endocrine diseases, gastrointestinal tract, urology, infertility, cardiovascular diseases and skin diseases. In case of contraindications to a naphthalan bath, an iodine-bromine bath is prescribed as an alternative treatment.

The course of iodine-bromine baths is prescribed as 7-10 procedures. Due to the healing iodine and bromine properties, the body relaxes, the patient calms, mood and sleep improve.

HOW THE PROCEDURE IS PERFORMED?

The course usually consists of 7-10 procedures for 10-15 minutes per day. The patient is immersed in warm water with the content of at least 5.5-6 mg/l of iodine and at least 25-27 mg/l of bromine. The water temperature is comfortable, 36.4-37°C.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE USED FOR?

The treatment with iodine-bromine baths increases metabolism and has an anti-inflammatory, sedative and analgesic effects.

Bromine has a relaxing effect on the muscles leading to a pain reduction in radiculitis, lumbalgia, polyarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. The antibacterial and healing properties of iodine are used to treat skin diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis (neurodermatitis, eczema). Iodine atoms are also the building material for the T3 and T4 hormones, contributing to the thyroid gland functioning normalization. The iodine-bromine baths are used to fight the hypothyreosis. The indications also include a number of diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, neuritis, sciatica, lumbosacral radiculitis.

Contraindications to iodine-bromine baths:

  • Hyperthyroidism (hyperthyrosis, thyrotoxicosis, Graves' disease).
  • Unstable angina, stage III hypertensive disease, severe heart rhythm disorders.
  • Reduced respiratory capacity, problems of gastrointestinal tract, urinary system in the decompensation stage.
  • Acute exacerbation of chronic diseases.
  • Infectious diseases.
  • Adiposogenital dystrophy.
  • Gout.
  • Hemorrhagic tendency.
  • Epilepsy. 
  • Malignant neoplasms.
  • Benign neoplasms with an increasing tendency.
  • Progressive glaucoma.
  • Individual intolerance to I and Br components.
  • Pregnancy;
  • Definite symptom of leukopenia. 

RESULTS OF THE PROCEDURE
